Just when we thought things couldn’t possibly get more glamorous at this year’s edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), MultiChoice, the organisers of the prestigious awards event have just announced that they are tapping two of the best dressed stars on the African continent, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Toke Makinwa, as red carpet hosts.
The media personalities whose individual styles are just as celebrated as their talents will be live on the AMVCA red carpet on Saturday, March 14, 2020, interviewing a host of other glamorous stars and guests at the event, and from what we know about them, it would be hard to outdo them when it comes to fashion.
Their announcement as hosts is even more symbolic because for the first time since it launched seven years ago, AMVCA is introducing a new category this year – the best dressed category, which will reward the most stylish male and female on the red carpet for their efforts. This new category is a very welcome development considering that there is no other event in the country and continent at large that sees attendees go all out with their looks like they do for the AMVCAs.
Toke, who has been topping best dressed lists since she burst into the limelight years ago, is no stranger to red carpets, and neither is Big Brother Naija host, Ebuka, whose outfits have broken the internet one too many times. While we are eagerly anticipating their slayage on the red carpet at this year’s AMVCAs, we are even more excited to see how all the other stars and guests plan on upstaging the stylish pair.
The 7th edition of the AMVCAs will be broadcast on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv from 4pm Nigerian time. Keep up with all the juicy details on the AMVCAs on social media using the hashtag #AMVCA7. For more information on the AMVCAs and other Africa Magic programming, please visit www.africamagic.tv.
Football fans will be treated to a bumper package this weekend as games from the Premier League will be aired on GOtv this weekend.
The games, scheduled to hold from 14-15 March, will be broadcast live on SuperSport Select 2 to GOtv Jolli and GOtv Max subscribers.
A fascinating game lies in prospect as Manchester City host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium. The game kicks off at 4pm and will be aired live on SuperSport Select 2.
Knowing that the chances of retaining the league title is now relatively slim, Manchester City are now hoping to cement their second position on the log. The Citizens have lost two of their last five matches and are four points ahead of third-placed Leicester City, even though they have played one game less. Manager Pep Guardiola will hope that squad can bounce back from their recent difficulties and finish the season on a high. Burnley, on the other hand, may not have hit the heights of their performance three seasons ago but they are having a decent season, currently placed in 10th position. The Clarets will want to exact revenge for the 1-4 defeat suffered in the reverse fixture and manager Sean Dyche will desperately want the win knowing that his team are just six points off the UEFA Europa League slot.
Also on Saturday, Chelsea will want to cement the fourth position when they travel to face Aston Villa at Villa Park. The game will be aired live on SuperSport Select 4 at 6:30pm.
Aston Villa are languishing in the 19th position, having lost four consecutive games and managed a solitary win in their last five matches. Although The Claret and Blue lost the reverse fixture 1-2 at Stamford Bridge in December 2019, manager Dean Smith will galvanise his players to get the all-important win in order to climb out of the relegation zone. Chelsea, however, are glittering in the top half of the table after claiming a vital win against Everton last week. The Blues are in prime position to pick the fourth and final spot for next season’s UEFA Champions League and manager Frank Lampard will want to ensure his players seal up qualification quickly.

The 2019/20 Premier League continues with the 30th round matches this coming weekend, 14-16 March 2020, with SuperSport viewers on DStv set to be treated to some of the best football action in the world.
The top match from the Premier League this round is the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool on the night of Monday, March 16. Liverpool will take a giant step towards their first Premier League in 30 years with another win and there’s no better incentive than the Merseyside derby which will see the Reds travel to Goodison Park.
Jurgen Klopp’s men who are still smarting from their exit from the Champions League following a defeat to Atletico Madrid in midweek will be itching to put smiles on the faces of their fans when the whistle goes off for one of the best and oldest rivalries in English football.
The teams played out an absolute thriller when they met at Anfield back in December 2019, with Liverpool winning 5-2. Divock Origi netted two goals, while Xherdan Shaqiri, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum were also on the score sheet as Jurgen Klopp’s team blew away the Toffees in front of a raucous crowd. This time around at Goodison Park, Everton will feel they are in a far better position to challenge Liverpool given the impressive progress they have made under the guidance of manager Carlo Ancelotti. Yet the Reds, stung by their recent dip in form will be fired up to claim a hat-trick of wins over their archrivals (having also put them out of the FA Cup back in January).
Other thrilling clashes in the Premier League that are must-watch for SuperSport viewers include Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur in London on Sunday, March 15, Chelsea’s clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday, and Arsenal’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho will be looking to record a triumphant victory over his former club following his team’s disappointing exit from the Champions League on Tuesday, while Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will be looking forward to recording another victory over one of England’s best teams after putting rivals Manchester City to the sword last Sunday.

The 24-year-old defensive midfield has been a near ever-present for Mallorca in the Spanish topflight this season, starting 25 of their 27 matches and racking up over 2000 minutes of playing time.
His relentless hard work in the middle of the park has been one of the bright spots for Los Bermellones in an otherwise tough season. Mallorca finds themselves in 18th place on the La Liga table – just inside the relegation zone. Yet they showed plenty of fighting spirit this past weekend, defeating Eibar 2-1 away from home to keep up their hopes of remaining in the top tier.
Mohammed’s value lies not in his ability to pick out defence-splitting passes or shoot at goal, but instead in breaking up the opponent’s attack and protecting his centre-backs. He has excelled in the role so much this season that he made his Ghana national team debut in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations win over South Africa last November and has been summoned into the team again by new Black Stars coach CK Akonnor for the international break later this month.
“Baba is an important player for us, a hard-worker in a midfielder who is reliable and able to provide defensive skills,” said Mallorca manager Vicente Moreno. “He has grown strongly as a player and I hope he can help us achieve our goal for the season.”
