The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched an intensive training program for 1,000 civil servants across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to enhance their expertise in IT Project Clearance processes.
This initiative aligns with the federal government’s goal of fostering a digitally skilled workforce and improving governance through effective service delivery.
The capacity-building program, held at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Kubwa, Abuja, focuses on ICT, Budget, Finance, and Planning Officers within Federal Public Institutions.
The training, structured in batches, aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to plan, budget, acquire, deploy, and manage ICT projects efficiently.
*Strengthening Digital Project Implementation*
Speaking at the event themed “Empowering Public Sector ICT Excellence Through Strategic Planning and Effective Funding,” NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, emphasized the vital role of strategic planning and funding in transforming public sector service delivery.
Represented by the agency’s Director of IT Infrastructure Solutions, Mr. Oladejo Olawunmi, Inuwa highlighted the agency’s commitment to digital transformation through its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) 2.0.
“This plan aligns with national priorities and focuses on key pillars such as talent development, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, innovation, and policy-enablement to drive a sustainable digital economy,” Inuwa stated.
*Addressing Key Challenges in Public Sector Digitalization*
Despite progress, the DG noted significant barriers to digital transformation, including limited collaboration, short-term project planning, inadequate ICT infrastructure maintenance, software licensing issues, and insufficient capacity-building.
He pointed out that many government projects struggle due to a failure to integrate modern technologies such as cloud computing, remote support, and enterprise network services.
To tackle these challenges, NITDA has reinforced its IT project clearance process, ensuring that digital initiatives are well-structured, strategically planned, and properly executed.
“While there have been notable achievements, only 12% of Federal Public Institutions (FPIs) fully comply with the process. A whole-of-government approach is needed to align with national digital transformation goals,” he revealed.

Inuwa urged participants to prioritize strategic resource management, emphasizing that effective budgeting and financial oversight are key to delivering impactful digital projects.
He encouraged them to take full advantage of expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, and practical case studies designed to provide actionable insights for their respective roles.
“We will explore how to optimize budgeting processes, improve financial oversight, and build systems that ensure transparency and accountability. This event is structured with your professional development in mind,” he assured.
