Former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has said defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election is possible if the opposition ensures close monitoring of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Momodu stressed: “I don’t know why people think it’s impossible that Asiwaju is not removable. Trust me, as long as we give INEC close marking, and that is why you need candidates who will be able to generate the firepower.”
Momodu, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), argued that the opposition must present candidates with the political strength to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Highlighting ADC’s lineup, he said: “So we have a lot of people, a rich and robust lineup in the ADC. For me, it’s not about one man.” He listed Aminu Tambuwal, Nasir El-Rufai, and Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi among the party’s prominent figures.
Momodu also pointed to the presence of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi within ADC’s fold, noting: “That should tell us that if we manage our affairs very well, we will already have overwhelming votes to torpedo the APC.”
He concluded by stressing that a transparent electoral process could tilt the balance: “Globally, once the electoral process is properly managed in a professional and transparent manner, elections tend to run smoothly.”
