On May 11, 2016, the Chinese student was kidnapped by the couple while jogging in a park.
She was then brutally raped and tortured to death in a nearby apartment, according to Judge Uda Schmidt, who described the incident as an “unfathomable crime.”
The victim’s disfigured body was found buried under a tree near the crime scene two days later.
The defendant’s former girlfriend – a mother of three – admitted to the court that she had helped to kidnap the victim, but had not taken part in the criminal acts that led to her death.
The duo was also fined 60,000 euros (71,300 dollars) in compensation to the victim’s family.
