The chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa has boasted that the incumbent Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu would be the last governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ever govern the state.
According to him, Ikpeazu who was not different from his predecessor, Senator T.A Orji, would not leave any worthy legacy behind as he had nothing to offer the state.
Nwankpa who made the statement in Umuahia, the state capital regretted backwardness of the state, insisted that Ikpeazu “cannot bring anything new into Abia state. There’s no difference between him and his predecessor (TA Orji). If I say Ikpeazu and PDP cannot return to Abia government house come 2019, I don’t think I have spoken from any point of ambiguity.”
Nwankpa went on: “Dr Okezie Ikpeazu PhD as he’s called is the last PDP governor to occupy Abia government house until May 28 midnight. On May 29th, the man that will be sworn into the Government House will be an APC governor. I stand by these words.
“If you’re following the political history of Abia, you’ll know that since 2003 there had never been free and fair election in Abia. The last free and fair election was 1998/1999 election. Now, APC led by President Buhari has assured that there will be free and fair election where votes of the people will count.
“We have put our house in order to make that happen. What we’ve done is strategic planning and repositioning of the party and trying to win leaders who can win the grassroots and whom the people have confidence in.
“And today, you can see the caliber of people in Abia APC and considering the political trend in Abia which has always depended on conspiracy between the ruling party, INEC and the security agencies to win election. This will never happen in 2019.
Come 2019, Abians, will for the first time since 1998/1999 express their desire on who will govern them and I assure you that APC has the material and personality and the agent of change that Abia needs.”
