The Five times world best award winner Lionel Messi has revealed that the thought of Argentina losing to Nigeria in Tuesday’s decisive group D clash of the FIFA World Cup going on in Russia is not possible, because he has not given up on his dream of winning the biggest trophy in football.
The Argentina captain who turned 31 on Sunday opened up on his obsession of winning the World Cup which he missed lifting four years ago after losing to Germany in the final.
‘It means so much because for Argentina the World Cup is special – and for me too.
‘I’ve always had the dream of watching me raise the World Cup. And then seeing the emotion that goes with it.
‘My hair stands on end just thinking about that moment. It would make millions of Argentine’s in the world happy. ‘So we cannot give up on that dream.
‘I have won all the most important tournaments but I am ambitious to the end. I would not like to retire from active football without being a world champion with my country.’ Messi was reported in the Mirror.
With a point from two matches, Argentina are on the brink of crashing out of the tournament, but a win against Nigeria will see them through to the round of 16, provided Croatia defeats Iceland in the other group game.
Both matches will played at the same time on Tuesday.
