President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate, requesting for an approval of a supplementary budget/virement of N164billion to fund the 2019 general and presidential elections.
The President said that the N164billion requested as supplementary is to enable INEC commence preparation for the polls.
According to the letter which was read by Senate President Bukola Saraki, Buhari explained that the total amount required for the 2019 election is N242billion.
In the letter which was read at plenary on Tuesday, President Buhari has asked the National Assembly to remove a total of N228billion as reinstatement from the ‘padded’ N578billion in the 2018 budget to fund critical projects.
According to the President, the N228billion is for “relocating some of the funds appropriated for the new projects which were inserted into the 2018 budget proposal totalling N578billion to cover the sum of N228billion required.”
