Senate president Bukola Saraki on Wednesday ended the rift between the governorship candidates of the PDP in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke and his rival, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi.
Both Adeleke and Ogunbiyi have been exchanging words since the conduct of the party’s governorship primary which was won by Adeleke. Ogunbiyi, who came second at the party’s primary, had refused to openly concede victory to Adeleke, alleging rigging.
It was gathered that at a well-attended peace parley in Abuja on Wednesday, Saraki who is the chairman of the party’s 85-member governorship campaign team, made the two men to sign an agreement to work together for the success of the party in the election.
While speaking with journalists after the meeting, Saraki said the reconciliation was important for the PDP that its foremost leaders in Osun who struggled against one another to secure the ticket of the party for the election had become united.
He said with the coming together of the two men, the party was poised to win.
He said, “What just happened is the signing of an agreement between not just the two aspirants of the Osun governorship primaries of the PDP, but between all the PDP stakeholders in Osun State especially between two Osun PDP aspirants, who a lot of people think cannot come together.
“Today, what you are seeing is the unity of the PDP in Osun state. The two aspirants who contested in an intensive primary are now together finally so that we will be able to present a united party for the forthcoming election.
“We are very happy with what we have seen today; the credit goes to two of them, Senator Ademola Adeleke and more particularly Dr Ogunbiyi said, “For us, the PDP victory is assured and by the grace of God, we are going to win the gubernatorial election.
“We thank the leadership of the PDP, especially the Senate President, Chairman of our National Campaign Committee and all our party leaders to have organised this.
“The electorate are waiting for us; I believe that they want us and this is what they have been waiting for. This is because, after the primary election, there should be reconciliation.
