First Bank of Nigeria Limited organised a relay on Saturday in commemoration of its 125th anniversary.

According to the bank, the 125 kilometre relay walk held across the country to commemorate its years of “unbroken service to the nation”.

Speaking at the end of the exercise in Lagos, Remi Oni, executive director of corporate bank, said the activity is to synergise the staff and customers to make sure the financial institution achieves more in subsequent years.

“What we are trying to achieve with this relay walk is that it takes team work. We are doing this all over the country. It takes collaboration. It takes working together. It takes empowering ourselves to be able to achieve what we have achieved as a bank,” Oni said.

“Working together and synergising with ourselves will believe is what we require to make sure the next 25 years or 100 years is brighter for the bank.

“What we have done here is to gather ourselves in different locations across the entire bank to emphasise to all the staff that it is your tiny bits, done very well and efficiently that contributes to the magnitude of what the bank has achieved. To have operated for 125 years without any unbroken period is a big milestone. We are proud to have contributed our bits.

“We are going to have a public lecture and a gala night to celebrate the bank, customer, staff and showcase to the society what FirstBank has contributed in terms of building infrastructure in the country.”
