Viewers on DStv and GOtv saw a history-making win this past weekend, as Leicester City racked up an incredible 9-0 triumph away to Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.

The result equalled the biggest overall win in Premier League history (first established by Manchester United with a 9-0 win over Ipswich in 1995) and also set a new mark for the biggest away victory.

The Foxes’ goals were scored by Jamie Vardy (three), Ayoze Perez (three), Ben Chilwell, Yoeri Tielemans and James Maddison. Yet a key figure in their success, both in this game and throughout the season thus far, has been Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

The Super Eagles’ defensive midfielder provides the platform for Leicester’s more attack-minded players to thrive on, while Ndidi himself is no mug on the ball – he has scored two goals this season and has an impressive passing success rate of 83.6 percent.

Ndidi was born in December 1996 in Lagos, Nigeria and his talent for football saw him snapped up as a teenager by Belgian club Genk, who signed him from local club Nath Boys in January 2015 and handed him his senior debut in the same month.

The Nigerian went on to make over 80 appearances for Genk before Leicester came calling in January 2017, signing Ndidi for a fee of €17,6million – an absolute bargain given that he would fetch at least four times as much were he to move in the next couple of transfer windows.

Ndidi has since become the fulcrum of Leicester’s midfield, with his energy, work rate and tackling making him a favourite of both the Foxes’ fans and his teammates, while he is often singled out by managers/coaches for his selfless hard work.

The Nigerian will look to continue starring in the Premier League for a Leicester team which has real hope of finishing inside the top four and returning to the UEFA Champions League. You can watch him in action again when Leicester travel to Crystal Place this coming Sunday for another Premier League match with the game broadcast LIVE on SuperSport 3, Maximo 1 & Select 2 from 03:00 PM.
