Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has denied plans to disconnect telephone subscribers from mobile telephone on the grounds of ongoing linkage of SIM Registration Records with the National Identity Number (NIN).
It, however, described the rumour making the rounds that the commission had concluded plans to disconnect telephone subscribers following NIN’s linkage of SIM Registration Records as a ruse.
Instead, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami assured Nigerians that government would continue to review exercise in the light of experiences with a view to ensuring its smooth implementation of SIM Registration Records with the National Identity Number (NIN).
Besides, Pantami called the media, publishers and reporters to always endeavour to seek clarifications from the Commission before going to the press especially on sensitive issues as publications of the alleged planned disconnection of telephone subscribers were predicated on erroneous assumption that every network or SIM connection had unique human subscribers.
