…urges Nigerians to complete process before Feb. deadline
The federal government has lauded effort by the Ministerial Task Force at ensuring seamless progress in the ongoing NIN-SIM linkage exercise, describing attendant results as significant especially as no fewer than 47.8million NINs had been distributed across board.
This, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, expressed satisfaction, saying the so far progress was a commendable achievement.
According to him, the Federal Government, which had expressed appreciation for the commitment being demonstrated by major stakeholders and the citizens aurged them to submit their NINs before 9th February, 2021 deadline.
He said this at the end of a review meeting on 18th January, 2021 involving Technical Implementation Committee under the Ministerial Task Force which gave a significant progress in the ongoing NIN-SIM linkage exercise.
So far, a total of 47.8 million NINs had been collected by the mobile operators as an average of three to four SIMs per subscriber including millions of Nigerians would be linked up before the deadline in February 2021..
Although the Technical Committee drew attention to an App developed by Federal Government which would allow subscribers to link up to a maximum of seven SIMs to their NIN, the Minister urged the technical team to fast track the processes so that the project would be delivered soonest.
Patanmi, however, warned Nigerians against selling their NINs or allowing others to use their NINs for registration as “any action committed with the SIM, good or bad, it will be officially traced and attached to the NIN owner.”
