…building the future with HOW Foundation
Many did not believe him then as a visionary and extraordinary bank chief when he took over the drivers’ seat of that obscure bank located at Oyin Jolayemi, to Danmole and now at upscale Oniru in Victoria Island, Lagos, as one of Nigeria’s foremost with a large number of customers in Nigeria, and even beyond the shores of the country.
With his over three-decades in financial services as one of Nigeria’s foremost corporate bankers, he sure needs no introduction about his formidable exploits in the Nigerian banking sector, the virtues of which have earned him a name that is firmly entrenched in the people’s public consciousness.
Corporate giant and boardroom guru, Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, the Group Managing Director of Access Bank, is one of the pioneers of modern banking in Nigeria, and a veritable business leader, reputed for his commitment to solving the teething banking problems. For Wigwe, leadership is a platform that must be leveraged to meeting the societal needs, and further instigate positive changes.
Under Herbert Wigwe, Access Bank’s character has changed, and its sphere of influence has expanded and ranked among the top five banks in Nigeria, with quite a number of awards and recognition to the bank’s credit, all through his leadership since 2014, when he took over the managerial seat of the bank.
With his promises to make the bank’s presence prominent in the Francophone region of Africa as a gateway to the world, with about 100 million customers in Nigeria and an additional 20 million customers across the African continent as subsidiaries.
He has been able to merge the bank with other banks in the world, from Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, South Africa, and now to Mozambique, where he is being applauded as a veritable banker of no mean repute. His banking prowess has gone ahead to make him a formidable player in the industry, just as he is not relenting on expanding the frontiers and horizon of Access Bank in the continent.
Just as Herbert Wigwe is excelling in his career as a banker, he is also not doing badly on the home front. His darling wife, Chizoba and four lovely children are not having any ache about the professional excesses and demands of the family head, because he takes absolute good care of them by all means.
Herbert, in his benevolent and philanthropic gestures, will always be remembered by the people and lives he has touched, most especially the inhabitants of Makoko Community in Lagos, the Isiokpo community and its environs in River State, including numbers of indigent school children in many schools that have benefited from his charitable gestures, through his NGO, Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, (HOW,) Foundation.
Recently, he was at his very best, tutoring the young ones at the City of David Parish of RCCG in Lagos, on leadership and mentorship programs, via initiating various seminars and workshops aimed at providing youths with support to push them closer to achieving greatness in their careers choices.
Herbert Wigwe is indeed a shining star for younger ones to emulate, as his national and futuristic global organization, since inception, has been sharing the same passion and drives around malaria, prostate cancer and youth development.
