The Federal Government of Nigeria issued a call to action for all Nigerian youths and IT enthusiasts.
They are invited to register for the ECOWAS Cybersecurity Hackathon, a thrilling Capture the Flag (CTF) competition aimed at equipping citizens across West Africa with crucial cybersecurity skills.
This landmark event, hosted by ECOWAS in partnership with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, and NITDA, offers a golden opportunity for both beginners and seasoned professionals.
Participants will learn about I cybersecurity, acquire new skills, and connect with fellow tech enthusiasts.

Further, the event holds special significance for young tech enthusiasts in Nigeria, offering a stage to highlight their skills and connect with the brightest minds in the field.
Regardless of the experience level, the hackathon provides a unique chance to learn, grow, and integrate into the cybersecurity community in West Africa.

The ECOWAS Hackathon has a history of attracting top cybersecurity talents from across the region.
The first edition in 2022 was held in Porto Novo, Benin Republic, followed by the 2023 event in Lome, Togo.
These events set high standards for innovation and excellence. This year’s competition aims to build on that legacy and make an even greater impact.
*How to Participate*
The registration period for the ECOWAS Cybersecurity Hackathon runs from July 19, 2024, to August 5, 2024.
To be eligible, participants must be citizens of ECOWAS member countries and between 17 and 35 years old.
Additionally, travel tickets will be provided for participants within the region and, each teams should consist of 3-4 members, with at least one female participant.
This initiative comes at a crucial time, aligning with a recent ISC2 report that highlights a global gap of four million unfilled cybersecurity jobs.
In response, Nigeria’s Federal Government is addressing this shortage through its 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, aimed at training three million Nigerians in technical skills, including cybersecurity.
