What does it mean for a bank to lead with impact instead of income?
That’s the question Alternative Bank is boldly answering as it takes center stage ahead of the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) 2025, happening July 10–11 in Lagos.
Unlike traditional financial institutions, Alternative Bank is placing purpose at the heart of everything, from agriculture to entrepreneurship to gender equity.
At a recent press conference held at the United Nations House in Abuja, Garba Mohammed, Executive Director at the bank, made it clear:
“This year’s ASIS theme, Scaling Action, reflects a shift from big conversations to bigger execution.”
In other words, it’s time to stop planning and start building.
*No More Promises, Let’s See Proof*
Alternative Bank isn’t waiting for global development to catch up, it’s already in motion:
For farmers, they oDigitMatazalla, Light Her, and Althavensandsss to markets.
For women, programs like Matazalla, Light Her, and Althaven provide eco-friendly mobility tools, funding, and mentoring.
For youth, the ACT DigitMatazalla, Light Her, and Althavensands in entrepreneurship and tech to make them job creators, not job seekers.
Every initiative ties back to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. B
“Impact is our new bottom line,” says Mohammed. “We measure success by the lives we transform.”
*Why ASIS 2025 Could Be a Game-Changer*
The Africa Social Impact Summit, co-convened by Sterling One Foundation and the United Nations Nigeria, is more than a conference. It’s a staging ground for solutions.
The summit will host a High-Level Roundtable on July 9 with panels featuring voices from government, business, tech, civil society, and grassroots organiSations/ impact investors ready to fund African solutions in climate, education, health, WASH, renewable energy, agriculture and more.
Mohammed believes this is where new systems get born and bold partnerships get made.
*Why This Matters Now*
Africa’s creative and social sectors are surging. But to go from potential to power, there must be financing that’s as courageous as the ideas themselves.
With ASIS 2025 on the horizon, Alternative Bank is showing what it means to blend profit with purpose and scale real impact that sticks.
So yes, banking can be boring but not when it’s shaping the future of a continent.
