President Donald Trump has announced punishment for any individual involved in burning the US flag.
This announcement comes amid the US government shutdown on October 1, 2025, over congressional legislation for the 2026 fiscal year.
It’s worth noting that the US government shutdown, which began on October 1, 2025, marks its first shutdown in six years.
The first shutdown was on January 20, 2018 stemming from disputes over Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration policy and border wall funding.
It lasted for about 3 days, furloughing approximately 692,900 federal workers.
In a Truth Social post, President Donald Trump announced that any individual apprehended for burning the US flag will be immediately arrested and is subject to one-year imprisonment.

It would be recalled that former president, Joe Biden’s administration faced backlash for displaying a rainbow-colored Pride flag alongside American flags at the White House during Pride Month in 2023.
