This October, as the world marks National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is urging Nigerians to pause, reflect, and act because cyber safety begins with each of us.
“A secure digital future is built one safe click at a time,” says NITDA. “Every Nigerian has the power to protect themselves, their families, and their communities through simple daily habits that strengthen our collective cyber resilience.”
Theme: “Cyber Hygiene for a Safer Tomorrow”
The theme for 2025; “Cyber Hygiene for a Safer Tomorrow”, underscores that cybersecurity isn’t just a technical issue; it’s a shared social responsibility.
Every safe choice made online, from a stronger password to a cautious click, contributes to a more secure and trustworthy digital Nigeria.
To that end, NITDA is encouraging all citizens, businesses, and institutions to adopt essential cyber hygiene practices, including:
Using strong, unique passwords for all accounts.
Enabling two-factor authentication for extra protection.
Updating devices and applications regularly to prevent breaches.
Backing up important data frequently.
Avoiding suspicious links and attachments from unknown sources.
Thinking twice before sharing personal or financial information online.
A Collective Responsibility
As Nigeria continues to deepen its digital transformation journey, cybersecurity awareness has become a pillar of national resilience.
