Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, is currently on medical bed rest in Abuja, a reliable source has confirmed, following the presidency’s announcement that he would not be leading Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank-IMF meetings in New York due to being “indisposed.”

According to the source, who disclosed the information after spending time with the minister on Sunday, Mr. Edun has been advised by his doctors to take a short break from official duties in order to rest and recover fully.

“He spent some time resting under medical supervision in Abuja,” the source said, adding that the minister is expected to “spend some days away from work to fully recover and recharge before resuming his very tasking responsibilities.”

Mr. Edun, who has been central to the government’s ongoing economic reforms, has spent recent months working intensely to stabilize the economy following the removal of long-standing subsidies and foreign exchange controls that had constrained growth.

In a statement issued by the presidency on Sunday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, announced that the Nigerian delegation to the World Bank-IMF meetings will now be led by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Yemi Cardoso.

Onanuga said the delegation would also include the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who serves as Edun’s deputy. With both senior officials representing the country, Onanuga noted that there is “no cause for concern” about Nigeria’s representation at the high-level international meeting.

While Mr. Edun is expected to resume duties after his recovery, government officials have emphasized that the country’s economic management remains on course, with reform efforts continuing under the coordination of the finance and monetary authorities.
