The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has urged all accredited tertiary institutions nationwide to partner with the organisation to update and upload comprehensive student records on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NELFUND’s spokesperson, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, described the initiative as a proactive measure designed to ensure a smooth verification and loan application process for students once the portal becomes operational.

According to the Fund, institutions are required to provide accurate and up-to-date data for all returning and newly admitted students, using admission numbers or other verifiable identifiers to facilitate efficient processing.

“NELFUND acknowledges the crucial role tertiary institutions play in the success of the Education Loan Scheme and seeks their continued cooperation in advancing access to higher education for eligible Nigerian students,” the statement read in part.

The Fund emphasised that only students whose information has been duly uploaded and verified by their respective institutions will qualify to apply for the loan. It therefore called on institutions to promptly commence and complete the upload process, assigning dedicated officers to manage the exercise in accordance with established technical guidelines.

“This collaboration is essential to ensure that no eligible student is excluded as NELFUND prepares to open its application portal for the new academic session,” the statement added.
