SDP Expels Former National Chairman and Others Over Misconduct

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled the party’s former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and other top officials for violating the party’s constitution.

The SDP’s National Publicity, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba, announced the expulsion of the officials during a meeting of the NWC presided over by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, on Thursday in Abuja.

He accused the affected officials of misconduct, misappropriation, and gross constitutional violations.

Aiyenigba recalled that the NWC, on June 24, suspended three national officers pending investigations into allegations of administrative and financial misconduct.

Those suspended were Gabam, the former National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, and the former National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi.

“To ensure fairness, the NWC inaugurated a disciplinary committee on July 4, 2025, made up of independent members to investigate the allegations and submit an unbiased report.

“After two weeks of deliberation, the committee submitted its findings on July 18, 2025, confirming the violations and recommending disciplinary measures against the suspended officers.

“Following the report, the NWC set up a sub-committee to produce a white paper, which was submitted on August 15, 2025, and later adopted as binding party resolutions,” the spokesman stated.

Aiyenigba said the NWC also reviewed a report on the unlawful entry of some individuals into the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

He added that the suspects broke into the office on July 28 and were arrested by security agents with stolen documents and party property.

“The intruders, identified as Adamu Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Shuaibu, are currently standing trial in court.

“Consequently, the NWC resolved that Gabam be formally removed as National Chairman, effective immediately, for gross misconduct,” Aiyenigba concluded.
