Tinubu Dismisses Service Chiefs, Appoints Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff

President Bola Tinubu on Friday approved sweeping changes in the nation’s military leadership.

The move was made known by special adviser to the president on media and public communication, Sunday Dare. who said the president approved of Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) replacing Christopher Musa.

In what the Presidency described as a strategic move to bolster national security and operational efficiency, Tinubu also appointed Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

President Tinubu, in the statement, commended the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” while charging the new appointees to “justify the confidence reposed in them and uphold the professionalism, vigilance, and unity that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

All appointments, the statement added, take immediate effect.
