Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has revealed that the late President Muhammadu Buhari was surrounded by political sycophants who only flattered him and told him what he wanted to hear throughout the eight years of his administration.

Sule who made the revelation on Saturday while speaking at the 2nd Raymond Dokpesi Diamond Lecture organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in Abuja, said he was a witness to how politicians flattered Buhari while he was in office, only to disown and make a mockery of him after his exit from power.

“By being a governor, I have seen what sycophancy can do. I have seen people actually sit in the presence of late President Muhammadu Buhari to tell him, ‘Oh, you are the best ever. Nobody can do this better,’ the governor said.

“But the minute Buhari left government, they started saying, ‘Oh, he was one of the worst presidents we had ever seen.’ These are the same people but different moments. That is what sycophancy is all about,” he added.

The event which was held in honour of the late founder of DAAR Communications, was attended by top government officials, media professionals, and communication experts who paid glowing tributes to Dokpesi’s legacy of courage and innovation.
