The lawmaker representing Delta North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Ned Nwoko, has thrown his weight behind polygamy.
He also feel sorry for men with only one wife.
The senator, who has been in the news recently after one of wives, Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels accused him of domestic violence, said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday night that polygamy offers men greater stability and balance in marriage.
When the interviewer asked him his take on polygamy, the lawmaker responded:
“I feel sorry for those who have one wife. Just imagine standing on one leg — it’s difficult. But with two, three, or four, you’re more balanced. That’s the example I give.
“Yes, every man should do that. The example I give is this: just imagine telling you to stand on one foot or leg. You know how difficult it is.”
When he was reminded that the Bible does not endorse polygamy, the senator who is married to four wives countered:
“The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for.”
Nwoko stressed that he has no regrets about marrying many wives, noting that it was his personal decision and would do the same again and again.
“No, I don’t have any regret. I would do the same thing again. You should marry who you want to marry,” he stated.
He also took time to address allegations of domestic violence by Regina Daniels, saying the allegations were false and unfounded.
“I am not a violent person. I respect my wives and love them and my kids,” he added.
