The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and political thug, Onyeaka Odogwu, popularly known as “Red Angel,” aged 29, during a major security operation aimed at curbing pre-election violence and cult-related crimes in the state.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was made on October 24, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) in Enugu-Ukwu.
Ikenga said, “In a sustained effort to ensure a peaceful, safe, and credible forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested a notorious suspected cultist and political thug identified as Onyeaka Odogwu aka Red Angel, aged 29 years.
“The team also recovered two pump action guns, two English-made double-barrel guns, three live cartridges, red cloth and regalia bearing cult insignia and three black caps, as well as two red caps with inscriptions associated with Vikings Confraternity.”
The police spokesperson further revealed that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and admitted his involvement in activities linked to political thuggery.
“The arrest was made on 24th October 2025, at about 11.30hrs, following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) Enugu-Ukwu. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and also linked himself to activities involving political thuggery,” Ikenga stated.
Following his confession, the suspect reportedly led operatives in the early hours of Sunday to Omor, where the police discovered the group’s armoury and recovered the aforementioned weapons and cult paraphernalia.
“All recovered exhibits have been documented as evidence, while further investigations aimed at tracking and apprehending other gang members and associates mentioned by the suspect are currently ongoing,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that no cult group, armed gang, or political thug would be allowed to destabilise the peace and electoral stability of the state.
Orutugu also appealed to parents, community leaders, and youth groups to actively discourage young people from being drawn into cultism or violent political activities.
He assured residents that the Anambra State Police Command had intensified security deployment across all local government areas to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election.
