The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on Nigerians to hold their state governors and local government chairmen accountable for the effective use of public funds.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday during the public presentation of Vicious Red Circle, a book on human trafficking authored by Alex Oriaku, Yilwatda urged citizens to demand visible development and people-centered initiatives from subnational governments, noting the substantial rise in monthly allocations to states and local councils.
According to him, the sharp increase in revenue allocations has given governors greater financial capacity to improve infrastructure and service delivery. “No governor in Nigeria receives less than three or four times what they used to get before. None,” he said. “Two years ago, the total monthly allocation stood at about ₦400 billion, but the most recent sharing was ₦2.2 trillion. They can do more for their people.”
He encouraged Nigerians to engage their leaders constructively, saying, “Talk to your governors. Talk to your local government chairmen. Let them do more.”
Yilwatda, who recently took over the leadership of the APC amid public scrutiny of the government’s economic policies, reaffirmed his confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that the party remains committed to steering the nation toward economic recovery and sustainable growth.
