Nigerian music producer and record executive Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about the emotional aftermath of the Mo’Hits Records breakup, describing it as one of the most challenging moments of his career.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, which was published on Friday, Don Jazzy revealed that the sudden collapse of the label he co-founded with D’banj in 2012 nearly made him abandon music entirely.
He recounted how close he came to relocating abroad after the fallout, but his friends and colleagues encouraged him to stay and rebuild—a decision that eventually led to the birth of Mavin Records, now one of Africa’s most successful music labels.
Don Jazzy said, “When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me.”
Since launching Mavin Records in 2012, Don Jazzy has nurtured some of Nigeria’s biggest stars, including Tiwa Savage, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Johnny Drille, cementing his legacy as one of Africa’s most influential music executives.
The producer added that the Mo’Hits experience strengthened his resolve and taught him the importance of adaptation, patience, and emotional discipline in the fast-evolving music industry.
