The Nigerian House of Representatives has abruptly reversed its decision to suspend plenary for one week and will now reconvene on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
The earlier adjournment, which would have kept lawmakers out of the chamber until the following Tuesday, was initially triggered by deep-seated concerns over outstanding contractor payments and the non-release of mandated funds under the 2024/2025 national budget.
However, a statement released Tuesday evening by the House Spokesman, Hon. Akin Rotimi, confirmed the change of schedule. The decision to resume early was made following a breakthrough in negotiations to resolve these critical financial sticking points. Hon. Rotimi attributed the reversal to “positive developments arising from engagements and interventions across various levels of government.”
The Spokesman further elaborated on the specific reasons for the sudden resumption, adding that “This decision follows positive developments arising from engagements and interventions across various levels of government concerning issues that informed the earlier adjournment, particularly matters relating to contractors’ agitations and the non-release of funds under the 2024/2025 budget.”
