The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the termination of 115 staff members as part of a significant internal restructuring initiative.
Simultaneously, the secret police issued a stern warning to the public to exercise extreme caution against individuals who may attempt to exploit the service’s reputation for criminal gain.
The DSS publicized the development on its official X handle on Tuesday, framing the drastic measure as a continuous element of its institutional renewal.
“As part of the ongoing reforms in the Department of State Services (DSS), the public is hereby informed that a total of 115 personnel have been dismissed over a period,” the statement read in part.
The agency noted that some of the dismissed individuals have continued to present themselves as serving DSS operatives in an attempt to defraud unsuspecting citizens. This caution follows prior public notices specifically disowning two individuals, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who were arrested for alleged fraudulent practices and slated for arraignment.
The Service explicitly warned citizens against interacting with these former staff in an official capacity. “Members of the public are advised to desist from any official dealing with these individuals who have been dismissed by the Service,” the DSS said.
To ensure transparency and public safety, the agency confirmed that the full list of those affected has been published online. “For the sake of clarity, the identities of the dismissed personnel have been published on the website of the Service,” the agency added, directing citizens to its official portal, dss.gov.ng, for verification.
