The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has undertaken his first operational visit to troops of the Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, Borno State, reaffirming the military’s commitment to intensifying the fight against insurgency in the region.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the visit aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to strengthen ongoing counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations across the North-East.
Addressing soldiers at the Maimalari Military Cantonment, Shaibu urged them to sustain unrelenting pressure on insurgent groups until full peace and stability are achieved. He assured the troops of continued logistical support and improved welfare to boost morale and operational performance.
“The Chief of Army Staff charged the troops to maintain relentless pressure on the remnants of insurgents until total victory is secured,” the statement read. “He stressed the importance of decisive action to restore normalcy in the region and create a secure environment for socio-economic recovery.”
Shaibu used the visit to assess the operational readiness of formations and units within the theatre, pledging to uphold the Soldier-First initiative introduced by his predecessor. He reaffirmed his commitment to fairness, professionalism, and the strategic deployment of competent officers to key assignments, noting that the welfare and efficiency of personnel remain central to his leadership priorities.
