A United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has warned the Nigerian government against undermining President Donald Trump’s military operations in Nigeria amid his determination to finally put an end to the continued killing of Christians in the country.
Moore who is one of the US lawmakers who has vehemently denounced alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria, gave the warning in a post on his X handle on Saturday, cautioning the President Bola Tinubu administration not to trivialize Trump’s warning as the US President was prepared to do everything possible by taking decisive measures if violence against Christians persists.
“Do not test President Trump’s resolve – he is serious about ending the ongoing slaughter of Christians in Nigeria,” Moore wrote in the post.
In a follow up post, the Congressman urged the Nigerian authorities to cooperate with Washington in tackling the crisis instead of taking a hard stance by testing the resolve of President Trump.
“I am asking the Nigerian government to do the right thing and partner with the United States to protect Christians and end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ,” he added.
President Trump had in a post on his Truth Social media platform on Friday, reiterated his earlier stance that the US military would soon land in Nigeria to stamp out terrorists who have been killing Christians in the country.
In the post, Trump described Christianity in Nigeria as facing an existential threat from radical Islamist groups.
“Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” he wrote with a pledge that his administration would be ready, willing, and able to protect our great Christian population around the world.
However, the Nigerian government has continued to deny the existence of targeted attacks against Christians in the country with President Tinubu reaffirming in a statement that Nigeria upholds religious freedom and protects the rights of all faiths.
