Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has spoken out about the realities many female artists face in the entertainment industry, revealing that she once lost a major endorsement deal because she refused to sleep with the company’s owner.
Speaking at a women-focused music industry event on Wednesday, where she served as a facilitator, Tiwa opened up about the pressure, exploitation, and unspoken expectations often directed at female entertainers.
She recounted in the video, which was shared yesterday evening, about how a brand offer was withdrawn after she declined the company owner’s request to travel with him to Dubai before finalizing the contract.
“I lost an endorsement because I refused to go to Dubai with a man who is one of the owners of the company,” Tiwa said.
The singer said this was just one example of the challenges women confront. According to her, some promoters even insist that female artists must “meet the chairman personally” before being considered for show bookings, reinforcing a culture of gatekeeping and harassment.
Her revelation has sparked a wave of mixed reactions online, with many fans applauding her for speaking up, while others lamented the persistent exploitation of women in the industry.
