Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has reaffirmed that both the Federal Government and northern leaders are making concerted efforts to address insecurity in the region.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Sule acknowledged the persistent abductions and attacks by non-state actors but insisted that leaders are committed to finding solutions. “The Northern leaders are doing their best, the Federal Government is doing their best, and now we are saying we can even do more than what we have been doing,” he said.
The governor praised the Federal Government and security agencies for the recent rescue of 100 pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Niger State, describing the development as “cheering news” and a testament to coordinated action.
Sule dismissed claims that leaders are indifferent to insecurity, calling such assertions mischievous. He noted that while Boko Haram’s activities were once concentrated in the North-East, kidnappings have now spread to the North-West and North-Central regions.
He explained that kidnappers often target children, sometimes using them as shields against military operations. “Sometimes I get calls in the morning from security agencies saying everything was okay yesterday, or that something happened last night and they were able to secure releases,” he added, stressing that ongoing efforts continue to yield results.
