The Senate on Tuesday summoned the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over the increase in domestic flight tickets.
The minister will appear before the lawmakers alongside key stakeholders in the sector to address public complaints on the steep increase in the airfares.
The Senate resolution followed the adoption of a motion raised by a Senator from Oyo State, Abdulfatai Buhari, during plenary in Abuja.
In his presentation , Buhari warned that the soaring flight tickets could trigger nationwide travel disruption in the coming days.
He stressed that Nigerians have been complaining as the cost of domestic flights continues to rise.
The lawmaker noted that a one-way ticket from Abuja to Lagos now costs between N400,000 and N600,000.
“We need to invite stakeholders of our airline agencies to interact and interrogate the issues. Immediate steps must be taken before the festive period,” he stated.
