A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Gwarimpa has granted bail to former Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige.
Ngige is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an eight-count charge bordering on abuse of office and acceptance of gifts estimated at about N2.2billion.
Justice Maryam Hassan, in admitting Ngige to bail, adopted the administrative bail earlier granted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, including the requirement that he submit his passport to the commission.
The court also imposed additional conditions to secure his appearance for trial.
Under the ruling, Ngige is to produce one surety who must be a director in a Federal Government parastatal, own landed property within the Abuja Municipal area, and possess an international passport.
The judge ordered that the surety submit both the passport and the Certificate of Occupancy of the property to the court registry.
The judge fixed 28 and 29 January 2026 for commencement of trial.
The former minister and former Anambra state governor had been ordered to be remanded in the Kuje correctional facility following his arraignment on fraud charges.
The court had issued the detention order after the erstwhile minister pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge the EFCC preferred against him.
