Fuji music star Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM1), has taken his quest for the Awujale of Ijebuland stool to court, setting up a high-profile legal battle that blends tradition, politics and celebrity.
K1 has filed a suit before an Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, seeking an interim injunction to stop the installation process of a new Awujale pending the determination of his substantive case.
Named as respondents in the suit are Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Secretary of the local government, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
The Fuji icon has openly declared interest in the revered traditional throne, claiming lineage from the Jadiara Royal House within the wider Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which he says qualifies him to contest for the position.
His claim, however, has been strongly disputed by the Fusengbuwa family, which maintains that the Olori Omoba of Ijebuland has no ancestral ties to the ruling house entitled to produce the Awujale.
In the motion ex parte dated December 16 and filed before High Court 2 in Suit No: HC3/238/2025, K1 argues that the court’s intervention is necessary to preserve his rights and prevent any action that could compromise the subject matter of the suit.
As the legal drama unfolds, no date has yet been fixed for the hearing, leaving the future of the Awujale succession—and K1’s royal ambition—hanging in the balance.
