The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has married Queen Zaynab Otiti-Obanor, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, confirming widespread reports that had circulated on social media in recent days.
The development became public following a Facebook post by Abraham Double-d Dajoh, a member of the influential Dajoh family in Benue State, who announced the union and described it as a moment of joy and celebration for the family and its supporters.
In the post, the Dajoh family formally welcomed Queen Zaynab—now known as Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh—into the family, praising Senator Akume and urging his supporters to continue standing by him. The statement also extended a symbolic welcome to Benue State, Mbakor, regarded as the seat of leadership of the Tiv nation, and the Dajoh family home.
Reacting to inquiries, Akume’s spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, confirmed the marriage, putting an official stamp on the reports. However, he dismissed claims that the wedding ceremony took place on December 24, describing such reports as inaccurate.
According to Odunuga, the marriage is not a recent development, explaining that the union was contracted more than a year ago. He noted that public speculation intensified after the couple appeared together at a Christmas event in Gboko, Benue State, which many mistakenly interpreted as a wedding ceremony.
Queen Zaynab, previously known as Olori Wuraola, is a public figure who gained national attention during her time as queen consort of the Ooni of Ife. Her marriage to the monarch, which was her third, lasted approximately 17 months before ending.
The confirmation of the marriage has generated significant public interest, blending political prominence with royal history. While the couple has kept the union largely private, the clarification from the SGF’s office has now brought the matter firmly into the public domain, closing the chapter on speculations surrounding their relationship.
