Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has officially defected to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), finally putting an end to several speculations on which party he will defect to.
Obi who announced his defection in Enugu on Wednesday, December 31, said his defection to the ADC ahead of the 2027 election is aimed at transforming and rescuing Nigeria.
“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey. We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027.
“We still have a one-year window for everyone to go and verify the schools they attended.
“We do not want to return to court again only to be told it is a pre-election matter. The pre-election process should start now,” the former Anambra State governor declared during the defection.
On ground to receive Obi was the National Chairman of the ADC, David Mark, at the event which took place at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu.
Other political bigwigs in South East politics who were present included the Senators Representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, North Tony Nwoye, Abia South Enyinanya Abaribe, the Lawmaker Representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Afam Ogene, former Imo state Govenror Achike Udenwa and a host of other top political figures in the region
