The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has dismissed allegations linking him to corruption, insisting he has never accepted bribes or benefited from fraudulent practices throughout his career in public service.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Olukoyede declared: “All through my service in the public sector, as Chief of Staff, in the EFCC, as Secretary in the EFCC, I make bold to say that I’ve never been involved in any fraudulent activity.”
He challenged anyone with evidence against him to come forward, stressing: “I’ve never collected one bottle of coke or one naira to influence my sense of judgement in carrying out my responsibility.”
Addressing concerns about asset management during his tenure as EFCC Secretary, Olukoyede explained that he oversaw seized assets without personal gain. “You can’t trace any asset to me or any member of my family. No Nigerian can say I collected one dime because of carrying out my activities,” he said.
On allegations of illicit enrichment, he questioned their basis: “I don’t know where that would have come from. I’ve never benefited from any of these assets. Never.”
When asked about his wealth, Olukoyede invited scrutiny: “Nigeria should go and investigate that. I don’t understand the concept of being a rich man.”
He also confirmed compliance with asset declaration laws at every stage of his career. “That was the first thing I did. I did it as Chief of Staff, as Secretary, and as Chairman. I even asked all my staff to declare their assets,” he noted.
Reiterating his stance, Olukoyede said: “If you have ever offered me a bribe, and I collected, come out and say it.” He added that he conducts his work with diligence, commitment, and loyalty to the EFCC’s mandate.
