The United States has provided Nigeria with critical military supplies to bolster ongoing security operations across the country.
In a statement posted on Tuesday via its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed the handover of the equipment to Nigerian authorities in Abuja. “U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM said, tagging the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.
The latest assistance comes as Nigeria continues to collaborate with international partners to strengthen its capacity against terrorism and violent extremism. In November 2025, President Bola Tinubu’s administration had appealed to Washington to deploy military support in some states.
Following that request, an airstrike was carried out on December 25, 2025, targeting terrorist positions in the North West. The Federal Government later confirmed ongoing intelligence and security cooperation with the U.S., stressing that such collaboration respects Nigeria’s sovereignty while enhancing shared security goals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the partnership includes intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and support for counter-terrorism operations. U.S. Congressman Riley Moore praised the joint airstrikes as “a decisive move to protect Christian communities and tackle the ongoing security crisis in the country.”
Defence officials in Abuja reiterated that the cooperation reflects a structured approach to addressing insecurity, while also advancing Nigeria’s long-term defence capacity through technology, training, and international support.
