The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified efforts to broaden its political base ahead of the 2027 general elections, appealing to former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other prominent leaders to join its ranks.
The call came after the inauguration of the party’s North-East Zonal Congress Committee in Gombe State on January 11, which the ADC described as a renewed push to strengthen internal structures, deepen democracy, and reposition itself for national leadership.
Factional National Chairman Nafiu Gombe, in a communiqué issued on Tuesday, said the inauguration was a vital step toward consolidating the party’s presence in the North-East and ensuring credible congresses. The party ratified key officials, including Mrs. Patience Alex as Chairperson of the Zonal Congress Committee and Mr. Abayomi Adekunle as Chairman of the Zonal Appeal Committee.
Gombe emphasised the ADC’s resolve to build a credible platform capable of attracting Nigerians across political divides. “The authentic national leadership of the ADC passionately appeals to and invites the following eminent personalities to join the party in its mission to rebuild and reposition Nigeria,” he said.
Those invited include Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former Senate President Saraki, and former President Jonathan. “The ADC believes their experience, leadership, and patriotism are crucial in uniting efforts to make Nigeria great again,” Gombe added.
The party reiterated its commitment to offering a progressive, inclusive platform focused on good governance, national unity, and sustainable development. It vowed to continue mobilising Nigerians across regions in support of a new political direction anchored on accountability and equity.
This move comes amid growing political realignments, just weeks after Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, defected to the David Mark-led ADC which fuelled speculation about emerging alliances ahead of the 2027 polls.
