Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has reacted with apparent delight to the Super Eagles’ failure to clinch the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title this year.
Nigeria’s national team crashed out of the competition on Wednesday after losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco in the semi-final clash. The highly contested match ended in a goalless draw after regulation time and extra time, forcing a penalty shootout that saw the North Africans emerge victorious.
The Super Eagles were hoping to secure a fourth AFCON trophy, but their campaign came to an end after Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyeamachi failed to convert their spot kicks.
Reacting to the outcome on social media platform X, Speed Darlington expressed what appeared to be satisfaction with Nigeria’s elimination. He wrote, “Thank God APC can’t add AFCON to their list of achievements to hide their years of failure. AFCON bye bye.”
Following the defeat, the Super Eagles will now compete in the third-place playoff match against Egypt, as they aim to secure the bronze medal.
