The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed reports that it held meetings with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over securing an automatic governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections before he officially defects to the party.

Media reports over the weekend had indicated that the APC put on hold the E-registration exercise in the state pending the governor’s official defection.

It was also reported that Yusuf was scheduled to meet with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa on his return to the country to perfect his final movement to the ruling party.

However, while reacting to the story in an interview with journalists on Saturday, the state party’s Secretary, Alhaji Zakari Sarina, described the reports as baseless rumours peddled by enemies of Kano seeking to destabilise political relations in the state.

Sarina who insisted that the APC never held discussions with the governor regarding any automatic ticket arrangement, stressed that the party remains open to welcoming Yusuf whenever he decides to join.

“Such speculation about secret assurances or negotiations should be ignored as the APC would not be distracted by attempts to create unnecessary tension,” Sarina said.

“We urge the public and party supporters to remain calm and focus on governance and development issues affecting Kano State. The APC is working toward a smooth and inclusive political process,” he added.
