Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed confidence that the coalition between the ADC and the Obidient Movement will remove the APC from power in 2027.
Speaking in Benin on Monday during the mass defection of Obidient Movement members into the ADC, Odigie-Oyegun said the development reflects Nigerians’ readiness, especially the youth, to push for leadership change and national renewal.
“A new Nigeria is truly possible,” he declared, noting that the calibre of individuals joining the ADC strengthens the belief in a better future. He recalled recent high-profile defections, including Dele Momodu, and praised the Obidient Movement’s deliberate choice to join the ADC. “From the day this coalition came together, I was convinced that we are on the right path,” he added.
He stressed that dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs should inspire collective action. “We have one target: we have a country to save. We must ensure that through the ADC, we make a new Nigeria possible,” Odigie-Oyegun said.
Edo State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Asemota Idiogbe, described the ADC as the most viable platform to challenge the APC both in Edo and nationally. “This is the right party to battle the APC in Edo and Nigeria. ADC will take over Edo and the country,” he said, expressing optimism that Peter Obi would emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.
Idiogbe added: “We expect Peter Obi to be the President. We are here to strengthen the party, not to ask for positions. We will influence the masses to vote for the ADC. The party is for people who want a better Nigeria.”
The Edo State ADC Chairman, Kenneth Odion, welcomed the Obidient Movement, while State Woman Leader Faith Ebodaghe described the ADC as a rescue platform. “The ADC is on a rescue mission. We are the David sent to confront Goliath. With our voter cards, we will bring down the APC,” she said, urging women to play active roles in the struggle.
The Obidient Movement, which played a pivotal role in Peter Obi’s strong showing in the 2023 presidential election, has now fully merged into the ADC, positioning the party for a stronger electoral performance ahead of 2027.
