The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, has refused to establish a seven-member committee to probe allegations of misconduct leveled against Governor Sim Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu.
In a letter dated January 20, 2026, and addressed to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, Justice Amadi explained that two existing court injunctions prevent him from entertaining or acting on any request to set up such a panel. These orders, delivered to his office on January 16, 2026, remain binding.
He stressed that adherence to the rule of law requires all public officials to respect valid court directives, regardless of personal opinions about their legitimacy.
Citing precedent, Amadi recalled a 2007 case in which the Kwara State Chief Judge was criticized for disregarding a restraining order while forming an investigative panel, a move later nullified by the Court of Appeal.
The Rivers Chief Judge also noted that the Speaker has already challenged the current injunctions at the Court of Appeal, further complicating the ongoing legal battle surrounding the misconduct allegations.
