Alexer Pere, the former wife of Nigerian singer Harrysong, has spoken publicly about the emotional strain that led her to temporarily relinquish custody of their two young children. In a video shared on her Instagram story on Thursday, she described the decision as a painful but necessary step to protect her mental wellbeing.
According to Alexer, the pressures she has faced since separating from the singer have been relentless, leaving her emotionally drained. She said going public was not part of her plan but felt compelled to document her situation as evidence of the difficult circumstances surrounding her decision.
The mother of two explained that she had been the children’s primary caregiver for the past two years, managing their schooling and daily routines from her home. She noted that while the children occasionally visited their father, she bore the full responsibility of raising them during that period.
Alexer alleged that ongoing interference from her ex-husband made it increasingly hard for her to live peacefully. She claimed he repeatedly showed up at her residence unannounced and subjected her to continuous pressure, adding that she was still preparing a response to allegations raised against her in a legal petition.
Addressing the custody issue, Alexer stressed that the decision was temporary and not an abandonment of her role as a mother. She expressed concern about her children’s welfare, particularly the possibility of them being cared for mainly by domestic staff, and insisted she would return to reclaim custody once she was emotionally stable.
She also revealed that she relocated from Asaba to Lagos due to what she described as threats to make life difficult for her. Acknowledging that her account may be publicly challenged, Alexer maintained that her choice was about survival rather than defeat, concluding that no mother willingly chooses separation from her children but sometimes has no alternative.
“I didn’t plan to come on here, but I want this to serve as evidence that I’m making the hardest decision of my life. At this point, I have no option,” she said.
“I’ve been doing my best for my kids. They visit their dad and school from my place. It’s been two years,” she said.
Alexer accused her ex-husband of constant harassment and interference, alleging that he frequently showed up at her home unannounced.
“This man has not let me rest. He frustrates my efforts and harasses me everywhere,” she said.
“I’m tired. There are many allegations in the petition he brought. I will respond in good time, but for now, the emotional pressure is too much.
“I’m giving him custody for now. That doesn’t mean I won’t come back for my children,” Pere noted.
