The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has been declared winner in three out of the six chairmanship seats in the just-concluded Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) conducted on Saturday, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won one as collation continues.
Results announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), showed that the APC won in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari Area Council and Kwali Area Council, while the PDP won in the Gwagwalada Area Council.
The incumbent Chairman for AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu of the candidate polled a total of 40,295 votes to defeat his closest rival, Paul Ogidi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who garnered 12,109 votes to emerge second, while Dantani Zanda of the PDP scored 3,398 votes to come in at third.
In the Bwari Council, APC’s Joshua Ishaku was declared the winner with 18,466 votes while the ADC candidate came second with 4,254 votes, with the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) securing 3,515 votes.
The ruling party also won in Kwali Council with its candidate, Daniel Nuhu, scoring 17,032 votes to defeat the PDP’s Haruna Pai, who polled 8,575 votes.
In Gwagwalada Area Council, the candidate of the PDP, Mohammed Kasim, emerged victorious, defeating his closest rival from the APC, Yahaya Shehu, after polling 22,165 votes against the APC candidate’s 17,788 votes with the candidates of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) scoring 432 votes, followed by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), which secured 175 votes, and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with 158 votes.
INEC is expected to announce results for the remaining two Area Councils as collation processes are concluded later today.
