The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dismissed the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, with immediate effect.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa.
According to the statement, the move is part of the administration’s broader effort to reform and strengthen the state’s civil service system to ensure greater efficiency and accountability.
“The decision forms part of the ongoing efforts of the present administration to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery across all government institutions.”
Despite the removal, the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his service and commitment to the state during his tenure.
“We wish him the best in his future endeavours and pray for his continued success in all aspects of life,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
To ensure continuity in the administration of the civil service, Yusuf appointed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services in the Cabinet Office, to act in the role pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.
“The governor has directed that Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, should serve in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.”
The governor also instructed Musa to formally transfer the responsibilities of the office to the acting Head of Service no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The development comes amid shifting political dynamics in Kano following Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The political move has reportedly triggered adjustments within the state’s political and administrative structures, as the government aligns its leadership and policy direction with the new party configuration while pursuing reforms within the civil service.
