Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that his decision to pursue a career in music led to a breakdown in his once-close relationship with his father, Fatai Odunsi.

The Sungba hitmaker shared the personal account during a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO aired on Wednesday, offering insight into the sacrifices behind his rise in the music industry.

According to Asake, his father strongly opposed his ambitions at a critical point in his life, creating a divide between them. He described their early bond as tight but said tensions emerged when he sought independence to chase his musical aspirations.

“My dad and I were so close when I was younger. But it got to a time when I wanted to leave home to do what I’m doing now, but my father said, ‘No.’ I left regardless,” Asake said, underscoring the defining moment that altered their relationship.

The revelation sheds more light on a controversy that made headlines in March 2025, when Odunsi publicly accused the singer of neglect and abandonment. The claims sparked widespread reactions online, with fans and commentators weighing in on the family dispute.

In the aftermath of the backlash, both father and son moved to resolve their differences. Asake later reconciled with his father and took responsibility for his welfare, signaling a shift toward rebuilding their relationship after the public fallout.

Asake’s story reflects a broader narrative familiar to many young creatives navigating traditional expectations and personal ambition, highlighting the often difficult choices behind success in Nigeria’s fast-growing entertainment industry.
