ADC demands INEC chairman’s sack

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has demanded the removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, and all national commissioners.

Mark made the call on Thursday in Abuja, during a widely attended world press conference convened to address growing concerns over the commission’s roles in the nation’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Senate President’s remarks followed INEC’s decision to delist the party’s leadership.

He stressed that the INEC move had intensified political tensions and raised fresh questions about the commission’s independence.

INEC had earlier on Thursday suspended recognition of the ADC leadership after a Court of Appeal ruling and ongoing litigation over the party’s leadership structure.

Speaking further, Mark declared that the commission had lost public trust and was no longer capable of conducting credible elections in the country.

“We demand the immediate resignation or sack of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Amupitan, and all the national commissioners.

“We no longer have confidence in them. We are convinced that they are incapable of conducting any credible election.

“While posturing to be neutral, its actions clearly confirm that it has become irredeemably partisan in both conduct and decision-making.

“With its actions, this INEC has left no one in doubt that it is complicit in undermining Nigeria’s democracy and can no longer be trusted,” he stated.

Mark affirmed that the party would proceed with its planned national convention.

He stressed that INEC’s presence was not mandatory once lawful notification had been served.
