The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has debunked widespread social media claims suggesting a shake-up in its leadership, insisting that no such change has taken place.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the reports in a statement shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, describing them as false and misleading.
“Please note that reports circulating about a change in the leadership of the ADC are #FakeNews.
“Please disregard, flag, and report such content on any social media platform where you encounter it,” Abdullahi wrote.
The clarification followed an online report alleging that former Senate President David Mark had stepped aside as national chairman amid internal tensions and mounting pressure linked to recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The report further claimed that former party chairman Ralph Nwosu was being positioned to take over leadership of the party ahead of its planned national convention.
The controversy comes against the backdrop of an ongoing leadership crisis within the party, with competing factions laying claim to its structure. INEC had earlier intensified the dispute after removing the names of the National Working Committee led by Mark from its official portal.
The electoral body said its decision was based on a subsisting Court of Appeal ruling delivered on March 12, 2026, which directed all parties involved to maintain the status quo pending the resolution of a substantive case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
INEC noted that it would uphold the “status quo ante bellum” until the court determines the matter, warning against any actions that could undermine the judicial process.
Despite the development, the Mark-led faction rejected the commission’s decision and escalated tensions by calling for the dissolution of INEC. The group also reaffirmed its intention to proceed with preparations for its national convention scheduled to hold in Abuja on April 14.
